And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Romans 10:15
Christians should have beautiful feet. We should all be messengers of the good news of salvation. We should be shouting to the world “come back to God,” as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:20. Our mission is the Great Commission and we are therefore charged with having beautiful feet.
Have you really examined your feet? There at the ends of our legs are these two appendages with five toes each, an arch, pad, and heel. We are only able to successfully stand on our own after we figure out how to balance on them. Vivian is currently learning to crawl and eventually walk. She is slowly but surely learning how to make those feet do and go where she wants. Soon she will be running around going everywhere using her feet to move her.
Paul quotes from Isaiah 52 in talking about these beautiful feet of messengers of God. The idea in both instances is that messengers must use their feet to go out to share the good news of God both in the OT and NT. In fact, Paul’s point in Romans 10 is that the world needs us to become God’s messengers with His good news for those who have not heard what He has done through Jesus.
Missionaries are typically who we think of as having these beautiful feet. They leave their homes and families to travel to distant lands to share the good news with people from other cultures. The question before us today is do we have to travel away from Albany to find people who do not know about God’s good news of salvation? There are people in local jail who do not know about the good news of salvation, and I imagine there are many others in our community who do not know about the wonderful gift of God through Jesus.
The Great Commission for us often begins at our doorstep where our lives show the world God’s grace. Our attitudes and actions should help others find the good news of God and return to Him. Let us all strive to make our feet beautiful whether we have to travel far away or just next door to share God’s good news.
